なんちゃってミシガン -my life in Michigan-

レディース会合（Baby Shower) 2010年 11月 29日

久しぶりの仲良しレディースパーティーがありました。1人のお友達のベイビーシャワーです。
食べ物飲み物いっぱいのなか、わいわいがやがや、ゲームもあって、めちゃ楽しかった。
It has been a while since the last ladies party. It was a baby shower for one of my friends.
We had a very fun time playing games , chatting, having lots of foods and drink.



























どういう訳か、多くの友達が今年子供を産んで、ママになりました。おめでとう！
ここミシガンでは少子化は進んでいないようです。（笑）( ^)o(^ )
Many friends had a baby this year for some reason, and many friend became mom.Congrats! Here Michigan in NOT a society with fewer children. Haha( ^)o(^ )















次のレディースの会合はクレージークリスマスパーティーかしら。。
過去2年ある理由でちょっと危なくなっているこのXマスパーティー。あほなプレゼント交換のために。。。ま、いっか・・
みんなに会えるのを、いつも楽しみにしているよ！
Will our next party be the crazy Xmas party ??? Our last two Xmas parties were very crazy for one reason. The crazy exchange gift... Oh well.
I'm always looking for seeing the ladies !

車壊れて、新しいの買うまで（その2） 2010年 11月 19日

しつこいけど車の話の続き。あまりにもオオゴトだったので。

私の上司とその旦那さんのおかげで、修理代は私がいつも使っている修理屋で2100ドル出すよりも、すごく安くなりました（800ドルぐらい下がった
別の修理屋にレッカーでもって言ってもらい、土曜日に修理完了しました。
でも、私の古い車はまだいっぱい問題を抱えていたので、修理屋から引き取って、その後その足で新しい車さがしに行きました。
Thanks to my boss and her husband's support, the repair cost became much cheaper than $2100 using the repair shop I always was using. (About $800 cheaper)
The car was towed to the other repair shop, and my car was fixed on Saturday.
However, the car still had many issue. I picked my car up from the repair shop and after that I tried to get a new car.

アメリカでは車を買うときは、会に行ったその日に新しい車に乗って帰れます。日本で買うよりも簡単です。
ということで、車のディーラー何件も回りました。
In the US, when we buy a car, we can drive the new car the same day. It is much easier than getting a car in Japan.
I went around to many car dealers.
古い車を下取りしたらいくらになるか質問しまくり。英語を1日中聞いてしゃべって交渉もしないといけないし、本当に死ぬほど疲れた。
こんな時日本人はいろんな理由で利用されがちです。英語力がなかったり、性格が控えめだったり、元々なぜか金持ちだと思われてたり、などなどの理由。
I asked how much it would cost with trade the old car in. Because I had to listen and speak English the whole day including during the negotiation with dealers, I was very very very tired.
Japanese people are easily taken advantage of because of many reason such as English skills, humble personalities , being thought of as rich, and so on.


私の古い車はもう10年選手で100000マイル以上走っているので、下取り額はめちゃめちゃ低かった。
もしかしたらディーラー使わず、誰か個人的に売った方がもっとお金になるのかもしれないけど、それもできない。（まずめんどくさいし、英語力もないし）
For the trade in, the appraisal of my old car was too low because it was a 10-year old car and it had a 100000-milage drive.
Maybe, if I sell it in person without using dealers, I might be able to get more money for it, but I cannot do that because of many reasons.... (It was troublesome, not good English skill etc)


でもま、とにかく、GOOD　CARを見つけました。新車ではないけど、状態のいい中古です。
その車を見つけた2日後に、もう1度英語のTutorと一緒にそのディーラーに行き（また一緒についてきてくれた！どうもありがとう）　メンテナンスとか書類書いたり支払いしたりなんやかんや、計3時間ぐらいしてから、ついに車を購入！なんとまあ、長い1週間。(；一_一)

Anyway, I found a good car! It was not a brand new car , but good used car.
Two days after the day I found a good car, I went the dealer with my tutor . He came along with me again. Thank you!! After waiting for three hours for some maintenance, paperwork, paying money and so on, I finally got a car! What a long week for me! (；一_一)hahaha

で、その車に乗って家に帰りついた時、ディーラーから電話。
「ノートパソコン忘れて帰ってるぞ！」　ひぇ～～――――――――
When I drove the new care and got back home, the dealer called me up and said
“You left your lap-top here!! OMGGGGGGGGGGG

すぐにディーラー戻ったんだけど、その間車を運転していて、タイヤの空気が低いことを示すライトが付いていることに気付いた。。。
パソコン引き取った時にディーラーにそれを言ったら、もうメンテナンス部門がしまっちゃったので翌朝来てくれとのこと。最悪(‘;’)
I got back there as soon as possible , but…. While I was driving the new car, I realized the light for
“Low tire pressure” was on…
I told the dealer when I got my laptop, he said to come back tomorrow morning because the maintenance division was closed at that time. worst. (‘;’)

そして翌日、会社2時間休みをとって、もっかい行きました。タイヤも直され、もう1度全部OKかチェックしてもらって、本当についに車ゲット。
いい経験だったけど、もう二度としたくないわ。
恐るべしミシガン。。。
The next day, I took 2-hour off of work and went there again. My tire was fixed and checked again if the all of them were okay. And finally, I got the car!
Though it was a very good opportunity for me, I don’t wanna have the same experience again. Frightening in Michigan!


でもでも、みなさんいろいろ助けてくれて本当にありがとう。感謝します。

車壊れて、新しいの買うまで（その1） 2010年 11月 17日

車に関する悪夢のような体験。。。。
車がある月曜日に壊れました。。　なんかその車、調子が悪い気がしてたんです。
会社の後、高速運転中、ガタンという音がして、明らかにスピードが落ちた。そしてエンジンランプが点灯。。
かろうじて動いていたけど、アクセルをどんだけ踏んでもスピードは、ニュートラルに入れているみたいな感じで変わらない。
I had a bad experience with my car and it was a nightmare.
My car broke down one Monday. I had felt that something was not right with the car.
While driving on the freeway after work, I heard the car make a clunking noise , and it obviously started to slow down. Also, the engine light was on.
It was barely moved, but no matter how much the accelerator was pushed , it was not speeded up like a neutral position.

ラッキーだったのは、目的地のすごく近くで、この事件が起こったこと。
この日は英語のTutor（個人教師）に会うことになっていて、そのTutorが待っているところまでかろうじて車は動いてくれました。
車を止めて、エンジンを切った後は、何度エンジンをONしても二度と動いてくれず。。
エンジンはかかるけど、ギアが入らない。前にも後ろにも動かない。
The lucky part was that it the place the car broke down at was pretty close to my destination.
I was supposed to see my English tutor at that time. So, somehow the car was moved to the place that my tutor was in.
I parked it and turned off the engine. After that, no matter how many times the engine was turned on, the car never moved...
The engine could be on, but the gears didn't worked. It didn't go either forward or backward.

その場所は家から遠いところだったので、私は何していいかわからず(；一_一)
Tutorが保険会社に電話してくれ、レッカーの手配をしてくれました。
レッカーで私の家の近くの修理屋に持って行ってもらい、Tutorが家まで送ってくれました。
もし彼がいてなくて、これが高速の上で起こってたら、私は何もできなかっただろうなあ。
The place was far from my house, so I didn't know what to do...
My tutor called my insurance company and took care of the towing company.
The car was pulled to a repair shop close to my house by the tow truck, and he took me to my house.
If he had not been there, and if the accident had been on the freeway, I could not have done anything.


修理屋ではトランスミッションの交換の修理代が2100ドルもかかると言われた。
たっかーーーい！！(+o+)
既にこの車の修理にこれまでに4000ドル以上使ってたので、修理せず、この車、もうどっかにやりたかった。
Based on the quote from the repair shop, the price to fix it was $2100 to replace the transmission.
Too expensive ---!!(+o+)
I’d already paid more than $4000 to fix the car so far, so I really wanted to let the bad car go without getting it fixed.

友達や同僚からいろんな意見。
「2100ドルって高すぎやろ。修理屋変えたら？」
「別に壊れたままでも売れるから、新しいの買いなよ」　などなど
で、新しい車を探しはじめようとしたけど、この古い車は直すべきかそうでないのか決めかねていました。
Many suggestions were given by my friends and colleagues.
"$2100 was too much, you should change the repair shop!"
"Your car could be sold even while it’s broke down, so get a new car!"
etc..
I started to try to get a new car but I could not make a decision whether or not I should get the old car fixed.

このアクシデントの翌日から、不便な生活がスタート。
知っての通りミシガン、公共交通機関がゼロなので車なしでどこにも行けません。
自転車使ったら？と思うかもしれないが、歩道も殆どなくて、それも無理。
From the day after the day of the accident, my inconvenient life started.
As you might know about Michigan, people can't do anything without cars because of no public transportation.
You might think we can use bikes, but we cannot do that because there are very few pathways.

毎朝通勤は、すーさんが会社に行くときに、私の会社によっておとしていき、
仕事が終わったら、同僚が家まで連れて帰ってくれました。
で、家に帰った後は、言うた通り車がないので、外にはそんなにいけない。
私は家にいてお裁縫も料理も好きだけど、外に行けなくて家にいないといけないというのとは意味が違う。
When I went to the office every morning, Su-san dropped me off at my office on the way to his office. When I got off work, a colleague took me to my house.
After I was back home, I didn't go outside so much because like I said I didn't have a car.
I like staying in my house and I like sewing and cooking, but it's a different meaning if I can't go outside and have to stay in my house..


アクシデントが起きたのは月曜で、火曜から金曜はこの状態が続きました。
おっと私、外をランニングはしたなあ。外でできる唯一のことは走ることだけ（笑）( ^)o(^ )

The accident happened on Monday. From Tuesday to Friday, the situation continued.
Upps, I could run outside though. The only thing I could do outside was running. hahaha( ^)o(^ )

今年最後のゴルフはコンペ 2010年 11月 09日

会社のゴルフコンペがありました。コンペたまにします。だんだん寒くなってきたので、今回が今年最後。
My office had a golf competition. Sometimes we have it. It was getting cold outside so the final one for this year.　

この日は雨模様だったので（きつい雨では無かったけど）、会社でゴルフする人全員が参加したわけではありませんでしたが、1人の男の人と私は個人的にビール1杯とフライドポテトを賭けて対戦することになっていたので、雨でも行きました。
It was a bit rainy that day(not heavy rain though), so not all of the golfers in my office joined it this time.
One guy and I had a personal competition and bet a glass of beer and French fries. Even though it was rainy we went.

彼のゴルフの腕前は分かっていたので、勝つ自信満々でした。私はゴルフそんなに上手ではないけど、今年は全体的にそんなに悪くないし。そんなに練習しなくっても、今年はこれまで結構スコアが悪くなかったし。
I had a confidence that I would beat his because I knew his golf skill. My golf skill was also not so good, but my golf this year was not so bad. Even if I hadn’t practice so much, my score was not so bad so far.

で、その対戦の結果ですが。。「引き分け」全く同じスコア。全くおもろなーーい(+o+)
あの日の私のゴルフはひどかった。　ただビール飲めるはずだったのにぃ～(;O;)
いろいろ原因はあるけど、その日の調子が悪かった大きな理由の1つは、ギース（ガチョウ）多すぎ。。私はギースが怖いんです。まじで。　ま、いいけど、アホな言い訳でした。
The result of the competition was.. “EVEN” ….. We both got the same score. I was NOT interesting at all(+o+) My golf was too bad at that time. I should have gotten a free beer!!!(;O;)
There were lots of caused, but one the big reasons that my golf was bad was that there were TOO many geese. I was afraid of them . Seriously.. Oh well. It is stupid excuse though…

でもま、終わった後にはバーに一緒に行き、結局お互い自腹でビール飲みました（笑）　楽しかったです。
Either way , we went to a bar after golfing and drank beer with our own money. Hahaha. It was still fun!

同僚の結婚披露宴出席 Wedding reception 2010年 11月 04日

同僚の結婚式の披露宴に行きました。アメリカでは初の披露宴出席。アメリカンスタイルの披露宴は日本のとは違いました。おもしろかったです。でもちょっと変わってるかも。。（笑）
I went to my colleague’s wedding party reception and it was me first time in the US. The American style reception was different from the Japanese one. It was really interesting, but I was a little bit weird for me. hahaha

招待状には、披露宴開始時間が6pmと書いてあったので、5:45pmにつきました。開始時間の6時になっても人はまばら。
フリードリンクのバーがオープンして、飲みながら開始を待ち、実際に始まったのは7pmだった。。これぞ一種のアメリカンスタイル(；一_一)　この時点では、全てのゲストは席についてました。
日本は時間にはきっちりしてるんだけど。。
According to the invitation, the time the ceremony was supposed to start was 6pm. I got there at 5:45. Even though the start time was at 6pm, not all of the guests were there…
The free drink bar was open, so we were waiting for the start with drinking. Actually, the ceremony started at about 7pm.. That was a kind of American style(；一_一) At this time, all of the guests sat down.
In Japan, everyone is very punctual though…

この写真。花嫁花婿のほかに3人の男性と3人の女性がメインテーブルに座ってます。
私「あれ誰なん？」と思いました。3人の女性は“ブライドメイド”、3人の男性は“グルームズメン”と言うそうです。ブライドメイドのリーダーは“メイド　オブ　オナー”、グルームズメンのリーダーは“ベストマン”。花嫁と花婿の身近な友達とかから選ばれるようです。一種の仲人かしら。。？
Look at the picture. Not only the bride and groom, but three guys and three women sat at the main table!
I thought “Who are they? ” The three women are called “Bridesmaids” and the three men were called ”Groomsmen”. The leader of the bridesmaids was called t”Maid of honor”, and the leader of the groomsmen was called ”Best man”. All of them were chosen from the groom’s and bride’s close people.
They are like a go-between?

でもまあ、一番この中で重要な役割を持っているのはベストマンとメイド　オブ　オナーらしく、披露宴の初めにそれぞれからあいさつがありました。ベストマンは結婚式の前日結婚指輪を1日キープしておく役割もあるそうです。
Either way, the people who have the most responsibility are just the best man and the maid of honor. They were greeting at the beginning of the ceremony. The best men keeps the wedding ring of the wedding the day before the ceremony.


ケーキカット、ご両親からのあいさつは日本と同じ感じ。子供の頃のスライドの紹介もありました。そしてお料理が出され。。そう、日本と同じ感じです。
The cake cutting and the greetings from each parent are the same as the Japanese ceremony. They had a slide show for introducing them while they are kids. The meal was being served. Yes, similar to Japanese one.（*^_^*）


























でも、スライドショーの後からが日本とは違ってました。“ダンスタイム”の始まり。。
新婚カップルのダンスの後、花嫁と花嫁の父のダンス、花婿と花婿の母のダンスと続きます。
However, there is a big difference after the slide show. That was “Dancing time “. After the new couple were dancing, the bride and her dad were dancing to slow music first. And then, the groom and his mom were dancing.






その後、DJ付きのダンスタイムがスタート。。その時点で時計は10pm。私は、この披露宴はもう終わると思ってました。普通日本の結婚披露宴は例えば6pmから9pmとかのきっちりした時間割があって、司会者が全てのスケジュール進行をしていきます。全部計画通りに進んでいきます。
なので、一緒に披露宴に出席していた同僚に、いつ披露宴が終わるのか聞いてみました。
After that, dancing time with the DJ started… At that time, it was about 10pm. I thought the party was supposed to end. The normal Japanese wedding reception has an actual time period such as from 6pm to 9pm. The master of ceremony controls all of the plans. It was totally organized.
I asked my colleague who was also invited to the reception when the reception would end.



彼女いわく「終わり？ないない。ダンスタイムの後は、ダンスしたい人はして、飲みたい人は飲んで、したいようにするんだよ。もし帰りたかったら自由に帰ってOKよ。何人かはもうほら、帰ったじゃん」
She said,”No ending, after dancing time, the guests who want to dance can keep dancing, guests who want to drink can keep drinking. They spend that time to do what they want to do. If you wanna leave, feel free to leave. Some guests might already have left, haven’t they?”

ビックリ！ということで、10:30に帰らせていただきました。友達は夜12時までいて酔っぱらったそうです。そんな長時間は私には無理だー。
Surprising! So, I left at 10:30. It seemed that my friend stayed there until about midnight and got drunk. (^_^;) It was tough to stay for a long time for me--

ということで、すごくいい経験でした。本当に招待してくれてどうもありがとう。感謝します。
2人で末永くお幸せにね。素敵な結婚式でした！！
